FESTIVISITA ILOCANDIA

KANNAWIDAN is an Ilocano term which means “a feast of all heritages, practices and products” in Ilocos Sur. The Kannawidan Ylocos Festival is a feast that preserves the stunning cultures, customs and traditions of Ilokanos. There are a lot of festivals in Ilocos Sur but this one may be the most colorful and grandest, as some say. The cultures of Ilokanos are to be proud of. In order to showcase these, this festival has tons of festivities and exhibit to promote our unique products and preserved cultures. Kannawidan Ylocos Festival is a week-long festivity of happiness for local and foreign tourists. There are a lot of entertaining events which are included in the celebration. It had already recognized its identity as the prime festival of the province.

Kannawidan Ylocos Festival is already becoming a fast rising festival in the country as shown by the number of participants and tourists who flocked and become a part of the festival. Kannawidan indeed is an attraction because it showcases the culture of Ilocanos that made them distinct from other ethnic groups of the Philippines. Most of the activities in this festival are encouraging the Ilokano youth to learn and appreciate indigenous songs and dances for sustainability and safeguarding the traditions and practices of the province.

The Day of Valor, also known as Araw ng Kagitingan, commemorates the heroism of Filipinos and American Soldiers when the Japanese occupied the Philippines during World War II. Major General Edward P. King, of the United States Army, was forced to surrender more than 76,000 Filipinos, Chinese and American soldiers to the Japanese at dawn on April 9, 1942. The soldiers were forced to take a 90-mile (about 145 kilometers) hike to Camp O’Donnell in San Fernando. Thousands of prisoners died during the hike (also known as the Bataan Death March) due to starvation, dehydration and diseases before they could reach the camp.
