  Most Christians view the season of lent as an opportunity to give up a food that we tend to eat frequently or to fast between meals. But the true and original meaning of lent, is to put us in the place of our savior, Jesus Christ. He spent forty days in the desert without any source of food. He was tempted by the devil on several accounts. He sacrificed his own life on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins. The purpose of these forty days leading up to the resurrection of Christ, is to challenge ourselves. To give up or devote yourself to something other than the regular. Lent is a time where we can all show each other kindness and hospitality. Jesus did not suffer his entire life to have us hate each other. All of us Brother Rice students have the capability to get to know a student that we have never got the chance to come around and talk to. You can all make someone feel welcome into our community. KANNAWIDAN is an Ilocano term which means “a feast of all heritages, practices and products” in Ilocos Sur. The Kannawidan Ylocos Festival is a feast that preserves the stunning cultures, customs and traditions of Ilokanos. There are a lot of festivals in Ilocos Sur but this one may be the most colorful and grandest, as some say. The cultures of Ilokanos are to be proud of. In order to showcase these, this festival has tons of festivities and exhibit to promote our unique products and preserved cultures. Christmas Season during Pandemic in the Heritage City of Vigan

The Heritage City of Vigan Officially marks the start of the Christmas Season in the City Government conducted the simultaneous lighting of this years colorful Christmas tree in front of Vigan City Hall. Regardless of all the odds caused by the pandemic, the Christmas vibes in the Heritage City the City Government of Vigan got its way with the new normal set-up in which most of the events were done through online and the others were with limited participants to comply into the minimum health standards set by the city covid-19 task force. Some competition was made with all talented participants or Inter-Barangay and the judging of entries  as well as the awarding of winners were done by visiting them personally in their barangays to prevent the spread of covid-19. The lantern or Parol is a traditional representation of the Filipinos of Christmas and the making of it became one of the highlights of Christmas in the city. They create their best Ilocano yet recycled inspired lanterns
